Unirac Achieves ISO 14001:2004 Certification for Environmental Management System

First Solar Infrastructure Company to Secure Both ISO 9001:2008 QMS and ISO 14001:2004 EMS Certifications

ALBUQUERQUE, New Mexico, April 19, 2011 Unirac, Inc., North America’s leading provider of infrastructure for solar power systems, today announced that it has achieved the International Organization for Standardization ISO 14001:2004 for Environmental Management Systems (EMS). Last November, Unirac announced its ISO 9001:2008-certified Quality Management System (QMS). It is thus the first solar infrastructure company to achieve both certifications, a real testament to the company’s unwavering commitment to global standards and continuous improvement.

This voluntary achievement demonstrates Unirac’s dedication to environmentally responsible business practices. Unirac customers can be confident that the company not only complies with environmental laws and regulations, but also adheres to documented processes and procedures to implement, maintain and improve the EMS governing the manufacture of Unirac solar mount solutions.

“Unirac takes a very serious approach towards the impact of our activities and products on the environment,” said Richard Welch, Unirac’s Chief Operations Officer. “As concerns about global climate change grow, an increasing number of our customers are demanding that our processes and systems are demonstrably respectful of the environment. The ISO 14001:2004 certification is evidence of our commitment to continually improving our environmental performance and surpassing our customers' expectations." Combining this with our ISO 9001 certification shows our commitment to pursuing world-class processes in meeting and exceeding our customer’s needs.

Certification for ISO 14001:2004 signifies that Unirac undertakes waste management via recycling initiatives, practices smart consumption of energy and materials, undertakes better use of natural resources, has adequate processes in place to manage environmental issues that might arise, and undertakes continual improvement to minimize harmful effects on the environment caused by its activities.

Unirac initiated the ISO 14001:2004 registration process in mid 2010. The company demonstrated to an independent auditing agency an enterprise-wide understanding of the ISO 14001:2004 standard and sound, documented environmental policies and management processes. The agency conducted certification audits in Q4 2010 and February and March 2011, yielding the April 2011 certification recognition.
