Unirac Partners with Wise Power Systems on
Breakthrough Solar Installation
1.1MW Ground Mount System Installed in Mere 40 Days Despite Five Snowstorms
ALBUQUERQUE, New Mexico, April 4, 2011 — Unirac, Inc., North America’s leading provider of infrastructure for solar power systems, announced today that it has teamed with Wise Power Systems in a landmark 1.1MW solar installation featuring the Unirac ISYS Ground Mount (IGM) in a northern U.S. locale. In spite of the onslaught of five major snowstorms, Wise Power Systems was able to complete —in just 40 days— the cumulative 1.1MW ground solar installation for two adjacent sites in Vineland, New Jersey. The sites, featuring 4,080 modules, are co-owned by RFC Container Co. Inc. and Russo Farms
Unirac’s innovative PV mounting solutions, including the ISYS Ground Mount, will be on display in booth 851 at the PV America trade show, held April 3-5 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia.
Preassembly is an outstanding benefit of IGM—especially in northern sites where on-site assembly is often thwarted by inclement weather. Module preassembly capability means that up to 30 percent of overall project labor can be performed indoors or on-site in a shelter—protected from the elements. This not only allows for increased installation speeds but also contributes to reduced labor rates.
“We were able to preassemble panels on North-South rails at a location 60 miles off site. Then we transported them to the site in a patent-pending racking vehicle with zero breakage, utilized a crane, and placed them on IGM with a clip to hold the modules in place while they were secured to the beam, significantly increasing our productivity,” explained William Rawheiser, the president and owner of Wise Power Systems. The company boasted an installation rate as high as 70 kW in one day, with a crew of eight. “This preassembly/prewired method enabled the installation to be ‘clamp and play’,” Rawheiser added.
“The brilliance of IGM is its ability to eliminate time delays in the assembly process, and ease the inherent challenges of working in inclement weather zones,” said Unirac CEO Doug May. “Reduced project cycle times and cost-savings are directly tied to IGM’s ability to allow for simultaneous operations: land preparation, foundation assembly, array sub assembly, and module assembly. No other PV ground mount solution on the market can offer this tremendous benefit to its customers,” he added.
Another IGM advantage is its ability to cut field labor due to its I-beam design, a benefit cited by Wise Power Systems. “With only 272 I-beams needed in the ground for the entire project and no cement —versus other products that would have required 1600 poles— we were able to reduce our labor and costs, and boost our install momentum,“ said Rawheiser. “Moreover, Unirac’s support service was exemplary. Any concerns were immediately addressed.”
Unirac’s dedication to being an industry leader is manifest in its products. IGM is designed to be an incredibly cost-effective system with the most scalable supply chain possible. Its groundbreaking installation rate of more than 10 modules per man-hour, components that require zero fabrication, and extreme strength-to-weight ratio make IGM the clear choice for large-scale PV project.

Consolidated Solar Technology Chooses Unirac to Support 1.1MW Albuquerque Academy Project
Largest Solar-Powered Secondary School in North America
Albuquerque, New Mexico, March 30, 2011 — Unirac, Inc., North America’s leading provider of infrastructure for solar power systems, was selected by Consolidated Solar Technologies, Inc. (CST) to supply an ISYS Ground Mount (IGM) mounting solution for a 1.1MW solar installation spanning a five-acre site at Albuquerque Academy. The solar array is the maximum-sized facility allowed under New Mexico utility regulations and was fully funded by companies outside the school. Albuquerque Academy is now the largest solar-powered secondary school in North America.
The array at Albuquerque Academy consists of 5,160 PV modules to produce approximately 2 million kilowatt hours annually, providing one-quarter of the school’s annual electricity usage. The IGM was custom designed to ensure no excess or material waste—of critical importance for a not-for-profit, end-user client. In addition, IGM’s innovative and flexible design, with its ability to prefabricate modules together before loading them to the system, guaranteed an efficient installation rate.
CST’s decision to opt for IGM was closely linked to the company’s previous success with Unirac. “We have worked with Unirac’s design teams in the development of ISYS, and were confident that IGM was right for this project,” said Mike Mattioli, managing member, CST. In addition, CST was pleased to select a racking system from a native New Mexico company, due to the nature of the project. “For us, it was the logical choice,” he added.
“We have an excellent relationship with CST and were happy to help them increase the energy independence of a local school in this manner,” said Unirac CEO Doug May. “Our ability to offer a product with high-quality design and performance as well as economic value was a win-win. We’re thrilled that we could provide CST with a mounting solution for this landmark education installation, which also happens to mark our first project with CST that is larger than 1MW.”
“Since this was a project for a not-for-profit organization, we were especially price conscious—not only for the actual cost of the mounting system, but more importantly for the installed cost,” explained Mattioli. “IGM excelled on these parameters. We were able to keep our installed costs below a threshold that was not achievable with other large-scale solutions that we investigated. Moreover, Unirac’s support staff and design team were very responsive to our needs for design and engineering within a tight time frame and budget.”
Unirac’s dedication to being an industry leader is manifested in its products. ISYS Ground Mount is designed to be an incredibly cost-effective system with the most responsive and scalable supply chain possible. Its groundbreaking installation rate of more than 10 modules per man-hour, components that require zero fabrication, and extreme strength-to-weight ratio make IGM the clear choice for large-scale PV projects.

Unirac Selected by Westwood Professional Services for 600kW Minneapolis Convention Center Solar Project
New Solar Array is one of the Largest Solar Installations in the Upper Midwest
ALBUQUERQUE, New Mexico, February 22, 2011 — Unirac, Inc., North America’s leading provider of infrastructure for solar power systems, today announced that it was selected by Westwood Professional Services (Westwood) to supply an ISYS Roof Mount (IRM) custom racking solution for the recently completed 600kw solar array atop the Minneapolis Convention Center. The array consists of 2,613 PV modules that produce approximately 750 MWh of electricity per year. This system is one of the largest PV solar installations in the upper Midwest as well as one of the largest commercial rooftop systems to feature a 30-degree tilt.
During the selection process, Westwood sought out a mounting solution that not only met the parameters for the project but also had a superlative engineering support team behind it. “We selected Unirac for this project based upon their willingness to work within the design specifications of the project and their ability to deliver a first-class product,” says Nathan Franzen, Director of Solar Energy with Westwood.
The Minneapolis Convention Center site’s northern latitude required a mounting solution that could offer an acute angle tilt in order to best capture solar gain. An irregular rooftop design with slopes in multiple directions also required the utilization of adjustable feet to ensure an array in plane or level with the roof. Additionally, the location presented harsh climactic elements such as snow drifts up to eight feet high and loads of more than 100 pounds per square foot. These challenges were met by a customized IRM configured to a 30-degree tilt to optimize solar capture and output. IRM’s extreme flexibility — allowing for the adjustment of North South beams and the supports beneath those beams — was critical for load support and was able to respond to sub-arrays in one section that required a 45-degree rotation to the building in order to capture the most solar gain. IRM’s best-in-class functionality, specifically its superior strength-to-weight ratio, was leveraged to ensure project success.
The IRM system was able to support the project’s unique requirements by providing enhanced structural integrity without incurring unnecessary costs. In addition, IRM’s ability to satisfy 90-120 mph basic wind speeds offered extra reassurance on a site at 70 feet above ground.
“ISYS Roof Mount’s unparalleled flexibility proved to be ideal for this site and project, and Unirac’s deep expertise in resolving design complexities was also integral to this project’s success,” said Unirac’s president and CEO, Doug May. “In addition, our team provided a seamless installation that adhered to a strict timeline. We are confident that Westwood will continue to be a key partner for Unirac in the renewable energy sector, and we value working with a company equally dedicated to quality and service.”

The ISYS Roof Mount is a revolutionary, non-penetrating roof mount solution that requires no ballast blocks or concrete in its assembly. It is positioned above roof obstacles—resulting in significant cost savings and preserving roofing integrity. The configurable design accommodates 0-30 degree module tilt to satisfy most solar capture requirements, and offers universal PV module attachment capability. In addition, the ISYS Roof Mount utilizes Unirac’s patented I-beam components that demonstrate excellent strength to weight ratio, and can withstand basic wind speeds up to 120 mph.
“We have redefined the industry standard with our groundbreaking ISYS Roof Mount solution,” says Juan Suarez, Unirac Director of Engineering and Program Management. “We’re confident the market will embrace the ISYS Roof Mount solution for its versatility and performance as well as its ability to reduce labor and cost for our customers.”
In terms of time and cost efficiency, ISYS Roof Mount offers outstanding value. With an installation rate of 2-3kW per man hour, it is one of the fastest and easiest roof mounts available today. In addition the ISYS Roof Mount has 30% fewer parts than competitive systems, ensuring quick set-up with consistent and repeatable installation steps. ISYS’ smart design also allows for pre-fabrication of sub-assemblies prior to delivery to project sites. The ISYS Roof Mount solution comes with a 20-year warranty.
According to Douglas May, Unirac’s CEO, Unirac once again exhibits its innovative spirit with the new ISYS Roof Mount solution. “We listen to our customers and respond with optimal mounting solutions that address a variety of module and site conditions.
