Greener practices and energy management...all under an ISO Certification!

Overview

Unirac is the first North American PV racking company to achieve both ISO 9001:2008 and ISO 14001:2004 certification. This voluntary achievement demonstrates Unirac’s commitment to environmentally responsible business practices. Unirac customers can be confident that the company not only complies with environmental laws and regulations, but through its Environmental Management System consistently reviews and improves the environmental performance of all Unirac operations.

ISO 14001:2004

Unirac has developed an Environmental Management System (EMS) that conforms to the international ISO 14001:2004 standard. Unirac’s EMS integrates with other internal systems to help us achieve both economic and environmental goals. Unirac’s Environmental Policy is:

  • We practice Ecorac (Environmental Concern, Responsible Action), a dedicated program under the umbrella of our ISO 14001:2004 certification which is committed to sustainability and conservation.
  • Consistent with ISO 14001:2004, by adhering to the Ecorac program we are committed to the prevention of pollution, continual improvement, and compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and other requirements to which we subscribe and that relate to our environmental aspects.
  • We also use our environmental policy to provide the framework for setting and reviewing our environmental objectives and targets.

Unirac's Green Team

We have a Green Team that was started as a grass roots group by employees with a concern for our environment. Their activities included monitoring and acting on suggestions from all employees; eliminating disposable water bottles; educating employees about their environmental footprint at work and at home; initiating new, energy efficient lighting in manufacturing, installing a water re-circulator on some production equipment, and installing photovoltaic modules to offset a portion of the facility’s electricity usage. Senior Management has always been supportive of the Green Team’s efforts, and tasked them with managing specific ISO 14001:2004 objectives including:

  • Energy Management
  • Travel With Care
  • Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
  • Supply Chain Management

The Green Team proposes annual targets for these objectives to Unirac management and then reports quarterly on performance.

As businesses who are involved in the solar industry, it is gratifying to see partners like Unirac being good stewards for environmental initiatives and helping us all to reduce our carbon footprint.
